Apart from the fellowship of like-minded collectors and toy train enthusiasts, when you join the TCS you gain the following specific services:

  • Train Collector Magazine, only available to Members, published 4 times a year (in March, June, September and December). The current editor is Pat Hammond, author of the New Cavendish trilogy on the Triang Railways  / Triang-Hornby / Hornby Railways range, and former editor of Model Railway Enthusiast.

  • The TCS Calendar featuring 12 toy train photos on a theme, this year, Signal Boxes  -  the 2007 calendar has now been sent to members, and is still available to new members joining - for now!

  • Directory of Spares and Services: - Full members also have On-line access to the large and very useful Directory of Spares & Services featuring details of parts and suppliers for many of the ‘others makes’ of toy and model train. Updates are made periodically as required.  It details spares and services for a wide variety of makes and is usefully cross-referenced to help you find the items you are looking for.  It also contains contact details for other clubs and societies that provide a spares service.  {An extract is available} The directory is also available to Full Members, on request, in printed form at an extra small charge with update sheets sent by post.. Overseas members will, due to postage costs, be only able to access the On-line version.

  • Each year at least two get-togethers, traditionally  in the Spring at Langford in Bedfordshire and in Autumn in Leicester, plus as a bonus the TCS Summer Exhibition at Sandy in July, further details of events,  contacts, etc.

  • The TrainColSoc E - group; founded in 2001, the TCS E-Group has proved very popular amongst collectors WORLDWIDE. Discussions on all toy train related matters take place and this can also be a useful format for finding out things that you REALLY need TO KNOW! To join the EASY TO USE E-Group, send a blank e-mail to: TrainColSoc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

  • Discounted entry for members to two leading toy museums - further details

  • For overseas members a "disbursement" service, via PayPal is available - further details

  •  A comprehensive index of the contents of TCS News over the years is available. This is regularly updated and currently features the contents of issues 1-115.

  • The first 137 issues of the TCS newsletter are now available in CD-ROM format via the TCS Spares Co-ordinator, Ian Ramsey-Connell  ramcon@ntlworld.com

  • The TCS has also launched a Catalogue Registration Scheme, co-ordinated by Pat Hammond. The aim is to create a comprehensive listing of the various catalogues and price lists and to establish what catalogues are available for members to borrow. The scheme involves a team of members each specialising in a different group of countries. We are also looking for people with expertise in the products of individual manufacturers.

  • The TCS runs for members only The Joe Swain TCS Archive Service, where photocopies of articles from back issues and photocopies of complete editions are available.

  • TCS Enquiry Service (for members only): Do you have a query about a certain make of toy or model trains?  Would you like to make contact with someone else with a similar interest?  We will try to put you in touch with the people who can help you.
